Dunkin' Donuts v. Western Church
I've been thinking a lot about the way we spend out time. I know this may not sound entirely original, but we are serious hypocrites. We may not think we are, but we are.
On my trip to Boston, we passed one of the many Dunkin' Donuts in the Beantown area, and this particular store had a sign out that said "Up late working? No problem! We're open 24/7!"
I was struck with the reality that Dunkin' Donuts employees have more passion than most of the church today. Maybe they weren't even passionate about their job, but they were committed to it, and even then they're a step ahead of us. What is the world coming to when the donut shop has more committed members than the church?
We worship 30 minutes a week, maybe an hour if our church is edgy, but what do we do with that? Do we live out our worship? "24/7 worship" doesn't have to be literal day and night singing to God. It can be living your life for Him.
But we don't live our lives for Him. We go and support the donut movement. This is why we are hypocrites. We close our eyes and raise our hands and are sincere during that 30-90 minutes of intimacy a week, but we fail to live it out, because worship is not easy. Donuts are easy.
